Real-Time Root Cause Analysis with Multilevel Flow Models

چکیده

A fault in a complex technical system usually leads to a large number of consequential faults. In a modern control room, most variables are measured and monitored by alarms. Therefore, a non-trivial fault usually leads to a large amount of triggered alarms, a so-called alarm cascade. Alarm cascades cause information overload and renders the alarm system useless during incidents. GoalArt has developed an algorithm that performs root-cause analysis on-line in real-time, as a fault situation develops. In this way, large alarm cascades can be reduced to a single initiating event. This is a revival for the alarm list, which becomes useful throughout complex fault situations. The algorithm has been proven in several industrial branches, such as conventional and nuclear power, electric power grids, and oil industry.

On-Line Root Cause Analysis For Nuclear Power Plant Control Rooms

This paper describes a new technology for analyzing alarm cascades in nuclear power plant control rooms in real-time, thereby making operation safer and more productive. The technology is based on multilevel flow models and a root cause analysis algorithm developed at Lund University and GoalArt. It enables the solution of the alarm cascade problem for full-scale nuclear power plants. In the ne...

Improving expressional power and validation for multilevel flow models

Multilevel flow modeling (MFM) is a modeling method for complex technical systems in which the goals and functions of the system are explicitly described. MFM can be used as a basis for root cause analysis, where primary root causes are separated from consequential faults, in complex fault situations. Model representations for use in diagnostic reasoning usually describe causality, between para...

CAMAC: a context-aware mandatory access control model

Mandatory access control models have traditionally been employed as a robust security mechanism in multilevel security environments such as military domains. In traditional mandatory models, the security classes associated with entities are context-insensitive. However, context-sensitivity of security classes and flexibility of access control mechanisms may be required especially in pervasive c...

Survey on Models and Techniques for Root-Cause Analysis

Automation and computer intelligence to support complex human decisions becomes essential to manage large and distributed systems in the Cloud and IoT era. Understanding the root cause of an observed symptom in a complex system has been a major problem for decades. As industry dives into the IoT world and the amount of data generated per year grows at an amazing speed, an important question is ...

EOQ Model with Cash Flow Oriented and Quantity Dependent Under Trade Credits (TECHNICAL NOTE)

Inventory models in which the demand rate dependents on the stock- dependent are based on the common real- life observation that greater product availability tends to stimulate more sales. In this study we develop an inventory model to determine an optimal ordering policy for quantity dependent demand rate and time dependent holding cost items with delay in payments permitted by the supplier un...
